Overview

Shalom College at UNSW is seeking a dynamic College Dean to join our small team in providing excellent wellbeing support to our residents and leadership mentoring to our student leaders.

Job Description

The role is a 0.8-1.0 FTE position and may be residential or non-residential.

The  key responsibilities include:

  • Drive and deliver programs and procedures to build a collegiate community and support resident wellbeing, including new resident orientation, community building activities, policy and procedure development

  • Contribute to and support the orientation and training of student leadership teams including the RAs and Academic Tutors and RESSOC.

  • Provide guidance, mentorship and management to the student leadership teams, including regular meetings and individual reviews.

  • Support the wellbeing and other issues of individual residents, providing assistance with referrals etc.

  • Monitor and support the academic performance and progress of residents

  • Develop activities to enhance the academic performance and learning outcomes of residents

  • Keep up to date with University and other relevant policies as they relate to student enrolment and academic programs

  • Support the Shalom Gamarada Indigenous Scholarship Program, working with the Executive Director to support residents and program requirements

  • Be an active member of the College team and work closely and collaboratively with the College Director, Shalom Gamarada Executive Director and the office team.

  • Provide after-hours support as required

  • Provide support with resident recruitment including interviewing prospective students, taking college tours, assisting with Open Days etc.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • A degree in in education, social work, psychology/ counselling or similar

  • Knowledge and/or awareness of the particular needs of students within a residential college setting

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and work collaboratively

  • Contribute to organisational objectives

  • Ability to plan and manage workload including working to deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

  • Commitment to academic excellence and collegiate life

  • Enthusiasm, initiative and a desire to maximise the success of the college and its residents

  • Active involvement in the college community including after hours events and activities such as Orientations and Formal Dinners as required

  • Knowledge of and experience within the higher education sector would be an advantage

About Us

Shalom College is a residential college of 130 residents on the grounds of UNSW.

  • Residents are from a diverse range of backgrounds, both local and International

  • The Shalom Gamarada Scholarship Program provides residential scholarships to Indigenous students who are studying at UNSW, providing them with a safe and supportive place to live whilst completing their degrees.

Shalom College is run by Shalom, a not-for-profit Jewish organisation committed to community-building, and which also runs programs in the Jewish community.
